History of Kings Presbyterian Church
Sowing Seeds:
Fall '89 - a dozen people begin meeting for a Service in the Kentville Recreation Centre.
April 22/90 - the Presbytery of Halifax and Lunenburg officially constitutes "Kings Church", the first congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada in theValley in 65 years.
Taking Root:
Summer '90 - we begin renting the New Minas Seventh Day Adventist Church for Sunday worship.
Fall '92 - Kings becomes a New Church Plant of Canada Ministries.
Summer '93- Rev. David Haywrd is appointed the first full-time minister. Membership is 31 Worship attendance increases.
Growing:
Spring '95 - a 3.6 acre site of land is purchased on Prospect Road..
Oct. 95' - the Rev. Tim Archibald is appointed minister.
Easter '96 - congregation celebrates its frist baptisms and approves a plan to turn the sod of a new building in '99.
Nov. '97 - Architech Ltd. of Halifax is chosen to design the new church. Terry Smith-Lamothe and Paul Caracristi give form to the congregational vision.
May '99 - Fulmar Contracting is chosen to construct the building.
Dec. 24/99 - Our first service in our new building to a capacity congregation. Members & adherents total 147.
Bearing Fruit:
2000 - Equipped to be a strong witness for Jesus in Kings County, the best work begins, helping people find Jesus and follow Jesus.
2004 - Session adopts a new vision to make Kings more focused outward on the wider community where people are searching. We make changes to worship & music so those who have never known Jesus before will feel more welcome. Small group ministries expanded.
2006 - Kings develops greater outreach in the community and globe with leadership in initiating a local Foodgrains Pumpkin Project, scholarships to Kenya, Inn from the Cold, VBS.
2007 - Kings initiates a new model for ministry both within the congregation and beyond, and mentoring new and younger leaders in our congregation.
2008 - Kings Church adds 14 new members and becomes fully self-supporting.
God has grown Kings from a dozen people to 235 members & adherents. The garden is just getting under way!
